Helen – baritone horn

Helen’s early studies were in Classical piano at the the VCA, but she became interested in Klezmer and Balkan music in the early 2000s. She joined Opa in 2009 initially on accordion, but soon switched to rotary valve baritone. Although from Irish/English/Norwegian stock, Helen has always been attracted to the asymmetrical rhythms, modal harmonies and the subtly Arabic flavour of music from the Balkans. Apart from playing with Opa, she has a busy piano teaching practice.
